About Us

From our very first visit to the old stables and hayloft we saw the wonderful potential, even as run down as it was there was an overall sense of tranquility and calm and the views were amazing, we fell in love with the place and decided to renovate it and then one of us had a bright idea… we would run a holiday let!

This was a challenge in itself as the building work took some time to get underway. It would take nearly two years of research and renovation (depicted in the Gallery under “during photos”) before we were ready to welcome our first guests in the Autumn of 2011. We had no experience in the self-catering business although our previous experience with letting properties and customer service had prepared us for some of the challenges that we faced in the first year of business. But looking back perhaps what was most important was that we had on many occasions first as a couple and then with young children and the grandparents been guests ourselves.

We had entered holiday accommodation and felt our hearts sink as we looked around and decided we would just have to make the best of things and we had also arrived to find that the little “extras” and attention to detail were what made the holiday. We felt that our own experiences put us in a unique position to know what our customers would expect. We like to think that what we have managed to create is a lovely renovated barn / cosy cottage, full of character and charm ~ a real home-from-home that our guests can look forward to returning to time and time again.

what's so special?

We expected to find our holiday lets clean and tidy on arrival ~ So our own cleaning team are very through and are happy to make an additional visit anytime to suit you during any holiday more than 7 nights to change towels and bedding and to clean, tidy and re-fresh the rooms at NO EXTRA COST.

Woodland Barn is situated in one of the most saught after positions in The Forest of Dean. On a quiet residential road, high upon the hillside overlooking woodland, countryside and the villages of Littledean and Soudley. Taking in the horseshoe bend of the River Severn and then on a clear nght the bright twinkling lights of Gloucester. The views are changeable throughout the day and itis worth an early morning cup of tea on the balcony. With the aid of the bonoculars provided we are assured by one of our guests that on a clear day you can even see the natural phenomenon that is the Severn Bore whilst having your al fresco breakfast out on the patio.

No hidden extras

There is nothing worse than than getting to your lovely holiday accommodation and being faced with extra charges. So we have done away with hidden fees and included everything in our quoted price. So what does everything include you might be wondering? No additional costs for heating / electric, no additional costs for bedding or towels, no charge for bringing your dog, no additional charge for using our high chair or travel cot and SKY TV and Wi-Fi are FREE! We try to provide as much as we can so that you can start relaxing from the moment you step inside the door. We always keep a supply of tea, coffee, sugar / sweeteners and a small kitchen pack to help you settle in.

Fully operational kitchen

James loves to cook and has found it very frustrating when self-catering cottages come with a “limited” amount of Kitchen equipment. During one memorable holiday we ended up cooking Spaghetti Bolognese in a Bread Bin! ~ So, we have tried to add as many “extra” items to the Kitchen as we could think of so whatever you decide to cook you should be able to find the right utensils etc. in our Kitchen. If you feel there is something missing that you would have expected or would have liked to have seen why not let us know about it, so next time you come and stay with us it’s part of what we offer as standard.

Wi-fi and Sky TV

Our latest editions to the Barn is FREE Wi~Fi and SKY TV for those who would like to use them.

Dog Friendly

We are pleased to welcome up to 2 dogs at Woodland Barn and from January 2015 we are pleased to announce it will be at NO EXTRA COST! James and I love to take our dogs on holiday with us, afterall they are part of our family. However, we also like to have a pleasant place to stay and we have found that our accommodation is not always what we expected. On one memberable holiday the shower tiles fell off the wall in our dog – friendly apartment! However, to maintain this at no extra cost we need a little help from our guests. We have provided a water tap outside the front door, this is so that your dog can enjoy running around the woods and maybe getting a bit muddy and wet (if you find the Dog Splash or one of the many ponds in the area) but then can have a quick wash before coming back into the property. We also provide towels (located by the side of the oven), two dog bowls, a dogs lead and some disposible bags (under the sink) just in case you forget. In turn we ask that you clear up after your dog (in particular the lawned area as many of our guests have young children), please do not leave your dog unattended and finally please don’t allow your dog upstairs in the bedrooms. We ask that you provide your own bedding / crate but we do have throwns (on the Toy Box) in case your dog likes to lie in a comfy chair or lay out on the sofa.

Welcome Pack

We also like to leave our guests with a Welcome Pack.  We provide a box of chocolates, fresh milk, some fresh cut flowers, and a bottle of wine (we ask for your preference of red or white wine when you confirm your booking) or if you do not like wine we are also pleased to be able to offer a soft drink of your choice (including fruit juices) or local cider, ales or perrys.
